Glenn Weston KauffmanBorn 03 Jan 1915 at Altoona, Blair, Pennsylvania, United States, died 21 Aug 1984 at Altoona, Blair County, Pennsylvania, United States, age 69 years, buried 22 Aug 1984 at Alto Reste Park Cemetery, Altoona, Blair County, Pennsylvania, United States Bldg-ME Wall-108 L/T-C13. Occupation: Retail Management - K Mart (1975) Enlisted in the military without service assignment on 22 June 1943. Army: PFC 552nd M.P. Escort Guard during WWII (7/9/1943 - 10/30/1945) He suffered from advanced Rheumatoid Arthritis for several years prior to his death. Many of my last memories of him include a boxing glove like cast on one of his hands following surgery to alleviate symptoms. Whenever we visited Altoona from MA, it was always an extended family affair. My aunt would be there, many times with a large dog in tow - that is, if you consider Great Danes big. I have very faint memories (probably filled in by pictures I’ve seen since) of dogs as tall as me, and many times my weight and overall size - but extremely gentle. My grandfather was like that: larger than most everyone else in the room, but gentle and kind (from the perspective of his little grandson). I recall a specific instance when I got a little rough playing pool downstairs, whacking him with a pool cue showing off my swordplay. My dad was furious and Grandpa wasn’t going to do anything to undercut my father’s authority, including his expression. However, I remember seeing forgiveness in his eyes. Despite the pain he must have suffered, not just from the pool injury but from the terrible arthritis, I remember the forgiveness… the patience… the love. His death came extremely sudden. Me and my dad had just returned to FL by car, having driven up and back in the old ‘77 Honda Civic at the end of my summer vacation. Less than two weeks later he was dead. I returned to middle school that year heartbroken. 2.
