Ruth Bates StaplesBorn 25 Sep 1920 at Grafton, Worcester County, Massachusetts, United States, died 05 May 2009 at Townshend, Windham County, Vermont, United States, age 88 years Obit: Ruth Bates Knights 1920 - 2009 JAMAICA Ruth Bates Knights, 88, of Jamaica died peacefully on Tuesday, May 5, 2009, at Grace Cottage Hospital in Townshend with her family by her side. She was born in Grafton, Mass., on Sept. 25, 1920, the daughter of Theron and Helen Bates Staples. She was a hard worker, who liked the outdoors. She loved working with animals, especially with a workhorse, skidding logs, sugaring and haying, also worked with a team of oxen, and later had a riding horse. She always had a family milking cow. She loved snowmobiling and did some deer hunting. She lived in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, then to Wardsboro, Vt., and in Jamaica for the rest of her life. She married Charles Knights June 11, 1940. He died in 2008. She leaves one sister, Jean Hescock and her husband, Carroll, of Norton; one daughter, Maxine Lowe and her husband, David, of Jamaica; two granddaughters, Karen Bills and her husband, Bob, of Jamaica, and Terry Chapin and her husband, Brian, also of Jamaica, and five great-grandchildren, Amanda Bills, Matt Bills, Stuart Chapin, Tyler Chapin, and Ashley Chapin. She was predeceased by her sister, Patricia Staples in 1965. FUNERAL NOTICE: There will be no burial service. Burial of her cremated remains will be held at the South Hill Cemetery in Jamaica at a later date by her family and friends. For those who wish, contributions in Ruth Knights memory may be made to the Grace Cottage Foundation, Townshend, VT.
